A Few Winter Hydration Savers – by Traci Drury

With the cold weather and dry air I find I have to use a completely different skin care regimen for the winter months. Below are some “Go To” products I keep on hand for extra hydration. Three are cleansers and one is a mask. Using the right cleanser for your skin type is important because it can make a difference in how well the rest of your products work.

The first two cleansers are luxurious – they contain oils that allow the product to glide on, leave skin soft, and are great at removing makeup, dirt, etc. The third is pretty basic and also performs well.

Kate Somerville KateCeuticals Moisture Milk Cleanser contains Kukui, Macadamia and Coconut Oils which allows you to use it with or without water. Orange extracts and oils brighten my skin giving it a healthy glow. Bonus: This cleanser can be rinsed or tissued off.
Purchase at Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom, Sephora or Kate Somerville’s website.
AKA’s: “Cocos Nucifera” is Coconut. “Aleurites Moluccana” is Kukui. “Aurantium Dulcis” is Orange.

If you’re interested in trying an oil cleanser but have some reservations then check out Giorgio Armani Crema Nera Extrema Cleansing Gel Moisturizer (Oil-in-Gel Cleanser). It’s a silky gel that contains Corn, Apricot Kernel and Rice Bran Oils. When applied to dry skin the cleanser spreads easily. Add a little water and it turns milky.
Purchase at Nordstrom, Barneys, Neiman Marcus, or Giorgio Armani’s website.
AKA’s: “Zea Mays” is the Corn. “Prunus Armeniaca” is the Apricot. “Oryza Sativa” is the Rice Bran.

CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser

Another great cleanser is CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser. It’s a pretty basic cream cleanser but I’ve found it does a good job of removing my makeup and leaving my skin soft. Can be purchased at drugstores.

Kate Somerville Age Arrest Hydrating Firming Mask will leave your skin soft and hydrated. Can be used as a regular mask and tissued off, or leave it on overnight for extra hydration. This product contains a peptide for firming, Glycerin and Hyaluronic Acid for moisture, Ceramide-3 to repair the skin’s outer barrier, and Vitamin C.
Purchase at Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom, Sephora or Kate Somerville’s website.
AKA’s: “Palmitoyl Dipeptide-10” is the Peptide. “Tetrahexydecyl Ascorbate” is a form of Vitamin C.
